hey everyone my name is Jeff Blum I’m originally from Northern California in the Bay area where I attended 15 Collegiate High School and I graduated back in 2016 I also recently graduated back in March of 2020 from the University of california-irvine studying business administration with an emphasis in finance I’m currently living in Los Angeles California where you work as a strategy and management consulting analyst with Accenture for those of you who may not be aware of a Consulting is it essentially where a company has a problem and we come in as consultants to solve that problem growing up quickly as the first generation college student and even more so as a child of immigrants it was always expected of me to attend post-secondary education there’s no doubt about it and even more so as we pursue what was regarded as a high-income stable Fields so really be a doctor or being engineer

and especially growing up in a lower socioeconomic status pursuing these stable careers in college is what appeared in felt like to be the only path to success with no room for error of course this isn’t always the case with all immigrant families but there tends to be a strong statement toward success equaling hiding, regardless of what you personally want to pursue but it makes sense many of our families left their countries to come to the u.s. to give us a better life but you know as a result as a teenager in high school the pressure and that expectation for you to succeed in that singular path to success just grows and mounts on your shoulders I really started to feel conflicted regarding that path to success when I was a sophomore I could have spit in a student consultancy program where we were divided into different groups and we underwent a professional development course and we learn more about what Consulting class program is what really enlighten me.

it wasn’t just that one path to success and I saw that firsthand right like I was able to meet these people who was doing exactly everything I want to do and these people were succeeding in all the way that I would need a program that would really enabled me to see that everyone path is different and I really needed that to resonate with me for me to understand there’s this whole other world out there that I wasn’t taking into consideration you don’t know what you don’t know so being aware that these opportunities were around me absolutely gave me a lot of insight towards but I personally wanted to do was tell succeeding in meeting the expectations set from my family and her myself balancing the risks and the rewards are higher life may end up in your teenage years is a lot of pressure especially when it feels like you have to make a decision about your major that might impact you for the rest of your life the wrist where that if I pursue the career field that was Stickman

I’ve I’ve been stable and those figmas end up being true

was I would feel not only myself but my family and everyone who worked hard to give me the opportunities to be in the place that I was in on the flip side the reward was obvious I’ll be able to pursue something I personally wanted and succeed at doing it to now I’m in the career field that kick-started the idea that there’s more than just one path to success it was rough along the way it always is and I didn’t do it on my own I had friends I meant or is behind me who enabled me to succeed in the position that I was I just wouldn’t have been able to be in a place to pursue those opportunities if I hadn’t kept an open mind about the very path to succeed regardless of whatever else was saying and that’s a lesson I continue to keep with myself today
