a generator to a couple of site maps for my sight and now I want Google to find it and index my site where should I link my site map where I know for sure Google will find it

that’s a good question the XML sitemap should have a site map tag that is placed in the bottom of your robots.txt file so your XML sitemap should always be able to be located because of that

but you’re discussing I think an HTML sitemap now in HTML sitemap is used both for usability from a user who may be lost and its use by the search engines to identify important parts of your website and to cause them to be spider and pass pagerank to them I would make sure I do it the convention is to have it linked from your page historically in the footer sometimes you could put it in the header but that gives a lot more juice to your site map I would just linked to it as a definite link followed fully qualified with HTTP colon slash slash domain.com and put it in the foot make sure it is not something that is going to be lost but I think if you have it in the footer and you put it on the footer of appropriate pages I don’t think you’re going to have it be a problem one thing I

Joe manchin since we do cycling is that we have a tendency to Silo our site maps that means within product a the site map corresponds to that hierarchy within product B it corresponds to that hierarchy we find it that causes less Confusion by having all of the pages linked from all the pages so we Silo our content by hierarchy and we have a matching site map within each Iraqi that helps us to clarify to the search engines that we have a focus on the topic and we are as subject matter expert that identifies the most important Pages within each area that doesn’t mean it can’t link to other things it just means that we really want to emphasize the hierarchy were currently in so as an extension of having an HTML site map
